Here is a brief biographical sketch of Rt. Wor. Brother Allan Evans Castley taken from local newspaper reports of his death and funeral:

“ALLAN EVANS CASTLEY

Funeral services for Allan E Castley, Victoria, formerly of Lake Cowichan, were held on October 31 at St. John’s Anglican Church, Duncan, Rev. G.A. Kerr officiating. Arrangements were made by McCall Bros., Victoria.

Pallbearers were W.A. Chappell, H. Nash, C. Whittingham, B. McEwan, P. Chutter and V. Vickers. The funeral services were followed by cremation.

Mr. Castley was killed, October 27, in a 2 car collision at Quadra and McKenzie Streets, Victoria. An inquest was held and adjourned to a later date. Mr. Castley was 59 years old.

 Born in Duncan, he came to Lake Cowichan at an early age, and resided at Lake Cowichan until last year when he and his wife moved to Victoria. For several years he was assistant manager of Gordon Stores, Lake Cowichan, where later he operated the electric light plant, which he bought in 1944 and later sold to the B.C. Hydro.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, one son, Gordon, Vancouver, one daughter Mrs. G. Grey, Calgary, one grandson, one granddaughter, one brother, Steadman, Lake Cowichan; three sisters, Mrs. D. Erickson, Christina Lake, Mrs. B.H. All, Lake Cowichan, Miss Lillian Castley, Chemainus.

Mr. Castley was First Master of the Coronation Lodge, No. 151, A.F. & A.M., Lake Cowichan, a Past Master of Temple Lodge, Duncan, and a Past District Deputy Grand Master of District 5, Vancouver Island.”

Allan Evans castley joined Temple Lodge, No. 33 in 1932 and began going through the Chairs the following year. He served as Senior Steward in 1933, Junior Deacon in 1934, Senior Deacon in 1935, Junior Warden in 1936, Senior Warden in 1937 and Worshipful Master in 1938.

On the formation of Coronation Lodge, No. 150 in Lake Cowichan in 1950, Rt. Wor. Brother Castley served as the first Worshipful Master of Coronation Lodge.
